ChIN (the International Chemical
Information Network) was initiated in 1990 by UNESCO, the interim secretariat
of ChIN was located in the former Yugoslavia. The goal of ChIN is "to launch
and carry out activities to promote chemical information as an efficient
means for national and international cooperation and development in the
chemical sciences".
Owing to the well known reason, the first steering Committee
and the 1st Regional Seminar on "Chemical Information" were held on Aug. 30,
1991 in Beijing. ChIN became one of the projects, Federation of Asian Chemical
Societies (FACS) after the 4th Asian Chemical Congress in 1991. The major ChIN's
activity has been a series of ChIN symposia in cooperation with the Asian Chemical
Congress every two years since 1991.
